Chp 9.

After reading G& G chapter 9, “Learning from Student Projects,”

A new idea for me in this chapter is that of Hypercomposition. This is work that involves transforming information from two-dimensional space of print into multidimensional space. Students have the opportunity to develop a number of different links among units (nodes) of information. In so doing, they confront decisions about what information is important and what is not, how to segment information into nodes (windows or cards). Students are held responsible for organizing an interpreting information in various ways. They must decide how best to publish their work with the vast plethora of multimedia tools available. For example, is a concept better represented as a text or graph, or by a combination of the two?

Principals of Hypermedia design is one aspect of chapter 9 which I was already familiar with. Teaching Internet Publishing the last 3 years I have learned by trail and error how important (Content Organization) is to the emergent learner. Linear/sequential organization is a must for my beginner students. Eventually thestudents develop or discover more complex designs. Although the size and complexity of multimedia and Web applications has increased, the need for using design models and methods of quality, usability, maintainability or reusability are important.

One idea that interest me is that of computer supported cooperative learning. Not only group work but actual having students that are physically isolated from one another. It could be different periods, rooms or buildings. No matter how distant each member of the group is they all need to work together on some aspect of their learning with the use of their computers. A few things I need to consider is what technologies are needed in support of the learning. And what are my educational goals?

Blogs in the classroom

The way I Have integrated weblogs into my class by making them into a journal area or a place to reflect.

I start by writing a prompt on the board everyday. Students respond in their notebooks.

After a few days I then I place the question of the day on the class blog. And the students then respond using a word processor.

After few weeks, the student create their own blogs and begin to respond online.
